On Hiatus
This tattoo was done on 06/23/10 on my mom. She lives in North Carolina and was up here visiting for a few days. Her birthday is on July 25th, so I did this quarter sleeve on her as an early birthday gift.
This tattoo holds a lot of meaning for her. She's a collage English professor and a writer. She utilizes a lot of Early American historical writing in her classes and originally wanted an inkwell and quill pen dripping blood with the words: "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness", rather small. This is what I ended up drawing for her, instead. We took out the text because I am a firm believer in "An image speaks a thousand words". Also, I feel that with this design there are many more implied meanings to be interpreted.
My mother is currently working on a book of essays of our childhood town (we both grew up in North Brookfield, MA). I hope this tattoo given to her lovingly by her daughter helps the creative energies flow through her.
