This was a classic case of a client who wanted an image that didn't fit the area requested. He wanted a photo of a bull rider and bull on his outer calf. The shape of the image was very horizontal while the shape of the available area for the tattoo was much more vertical being on the side of the calf. In order to adjust without making the image too small I freehanded the image with a small amount of foreshortening adjustments in the design. Once the freehand version was done I took it back to the drawing board in order to make it as realistic as possible. Sometimes a little extra effort goes a long way in making a client happy.
