Dot Matrix Printers for Stenciling

Posted by Aga Ji from IP: on 12/15/12

So im tired of spending so much time tracing out stencils and than have*for whatever reason* to dobit again. I bought a shitty thermo on from dhgate (made in china shit) and well we know how that went. Anyhow so I know that a dot matrix printer does the act of stencil making aswell. The question here is .... does any dot matrix printer work (24pin)? Or is there specific printer types?
FK did a great job of listing thermos that didnt work on a prev thread...wondering if someone has knowledge to share on this?

Our shop uses a dot matrix printer and have so for years, we have learned what works well and also what does not when it comes to using them in the shop.

They are decent for lettering although certain fonts will not translate properly to the printer due to software and technology discrepancies. For actual artwork simple outlined work is best, too many shade marks etc can make the stencil almost impossible to translate as well. Overall it is low maintenence, simple to use and works well for our needs, yet we still do hand stencils more often than not, especially for smaller designs.

You will need to download drivers, and depending on your o.s. you may also need to "dumb it down" depending on the model you end up getting. They do make cables to work with a simple USB as well. Hope this answers your questions!
