4 Tips to Survive a Long Tattoo Session

Submitted 02.15.17

Large, detailed tattoos are absolutely beautiful, but they also take a long time. While for large tattoos, Capone usually recommends breaking the design up into multiple sessions, there are exceptions. For instance, if you were traveling more than two hours, we would recommend trying to do the tattoo in one day. To help you make it through a long tattoo session, Cap1 Tattoos near Dallas, Texas has a few tips for you!

1. Get Plenty of Sleep the Night Before

Even though you’re not being active, a long tattoo session can be very tiring. The last thing you want is to be tired and irritable as your session goes on. Plus, when you get a good night’s rest, your body is better equipped to start the healing process as soon as the tattoo is finished.

2. Eat a Good Meal Beforehand

Being tired and being hungry can have the exact same effects when it comes to long tattoo sessions. However, if you haven’t eaten a good meal before your session starts, you could also start to feel woozy later in the day. Make sure you fuel up with a healthy meal that will give your body the nutrients it needs to make it through a 5+ hour tattoo session.

3. Communicate With Your Artist

One of the worst mistakes you can make when getting any size tattoo is not communicating with your artist. This doesn’t just mean letting them know exactly what you want in the design. Every artist knows that a long tattoo session can be grueling, but if you don’t tell your artist when you need a break, they won’t know. Don’t let your tattoo be a bad experience. Talk to your artist.

4. Bring Something That Can Occupy Your Mind

While music is perfectly acceptable for short tattoo sessions, listening to just music can only occupy your mind for so long. Bring your laptop, and Capone will get you connected to the internet so you can watch movies and zone out as he gives you your piece of custom body art.
