The owner of Tattoo Tony Under My Skin knows someone at Timberland so we ended up with a bunch of boots in the shop that they wanted us to paint. I stared at this thing forever and I realized the repetitiveness of the stitching in the boot and it reminded me of the tiles in the Emperor's Palace in Beijing, China. I had just been there over the summer for the Beijing Convention. I grabbed my photos and pulled the lotus on the heel from a wall relief, the dragon from a door hinge. The phoenix came from another source then my photos. The hansa above the lotus are the phonetic spelling of my name. I pulled them from a stamp I bought off a street vendor. We still haven't heard from Timberland if they like any of the boots we sent back to them.
