question for those with foot tattoos |
Posted by kpolice85 on 01/19/05
Hey, I was interested in getting tattoos on my feet but I read an article that said foot tattoos are real hard to maintain quality wise and they take quite a while to heal. Can anyone that has tattoos on their feet tell me their experience with this? Thanks |

I have a tattoo on the side of my foot and yes, they're harder to maintain. I had to get mine re-inked about 2 months after it healed. It looks great now, but since your foot is always moving and is more likely to get callous (sp?) and that means the tattoo has a much higher risk of losing shape/color/etc. It didn't hurt that much more though. |

Heres a link to my foot tattoo by Nick Baxter. I took very good care of it and it healed almost perfectly. Make sure you find a real sharp artist. Of course, all the white ink in my wifes foot tattoo fell out so she need to get it reworked. So yes, feet are a bit trickier even for the best tattoo artists. |

I have one on the top of my right foot and then the inside of my left heel. I haven't had problems maintaining either of them and they both healed. I got mine during the summer so I was wearing flip flops and they aren't in a place where the straps rubbed so that helped them to heal properly. I have had some friends however who have foot tattoos and have had really hard times maintaining them. The one's they have had the most problems with are when they have a large area of solid color, it tends to get blotchy. |

I have a tattoo on the top of my foot. I must say, the heeling process does take a lot longer than usual. It is also harder to stay clean. The dirt attaches its self to the creme. Your feet are always moving. But it looks beautiul once its heeled. (It does hurt like hell too) You will do fine. Goodluck. |

Hey
I have a tattoo on my right foot. It is the entire tp of my foot and then some., It hurt very very very much and took 4 weeks to heal, but I love it and it was worth it. I got it about 3 years ago and it still looks great. I recommend it and you'll be amazed how many compliments you;ll get on it.l |

I have a tatto of a rose and tribal on my foot. It is rather big and I love it. It was hard to take care of, it just depends on how much you want it. I didnt take very good care of it the first time, so I had to get it touched up. But once i got it touched up i took care of it and it still looks brand new 2 years later. Iam actually thinking about getting another one on my other foot. |

Hey there,
I have 3 cherry blossoms on the top of my foot and never had any trouble. You have to just remember that the hands and feet sweat more and are more prone to be involved in dirty activities-so you would just need to be that much more conscious of what you do-don't go jumpin around in mud puddles right afteryou get inked ; ) |

I have a tattoo on the top of my left foot. It looked great when the guy first did it, but as the weeks of healing went on the tattoo started to look horrible. I have been told that it looks like a burn or a bruise. I went to a different tattoo artist and tried to get it covered up and he told me that the guy who orginally did my tattoo went to deep and my foot is going to take another month or two to heal before he would even consider covering it. I got the tattoo in June 2005 and he told me to come back in Oct. 2005. So just be careful and make sure that you ask the artist if they have done tattoos on the feet before. ( I dont think that the guy who did mines, had ever done on on the foot before)
Good Luck |

i recently got a red heart on my foot. it looks great! it did take a bit longer to heal and i did take really good care of it. i wore flip flops everyday until ti was completely healed. when i went running, i would lotion it up and wrap it in saran wrap so it wouldn't rub. it would only stay wrapped up for about 45 minutes. the key is to keep it moisturized and make sure nothing rubs it. |

I just got a tat on the top of my left foot about a week ago and on certain spots it looks as if some of the ink got pulled off maybe when i was taking my sock off. i didnt think that a tat on my foot would be so hard to take care of but obviously it is. i guess after it all heals up it should be nice. |

Hello, well here we go lol,im an artist here in central florida, and ive been at it for 15 years now.Althought all artist have their own methods,i just wanted to give you all my 2 cents worth.I know the original post here was quite a while back but if anyone else happens upon this thread with questions,i hope this helps. My first question when someone asks for a foot tattoo is,"can you wear flip flops,or open shoes that won't rub the tattooed area?",as with any tattoo the initial healin proces is the most deciding factor to its final outlook. As far as taking longer to heal, well everyperson is different,so the exact healing time for you depends on you,its not so much where,as much as it is who.Hands, and feet reproduce skin cells faster, and more often than any other part of your body, without proper care, and ample healing the chances of your foot tattoo losing ink are very good.It is very important to keep the tattoo slightly moist with an ointment ,(every artist has his own favorite,i stray away from anything with too many medicines ),keep it simple, what youre lookin for its moiterizing, and protection from infection. Also keep it thin just enough to moisten the skin but not so much as too clog the pours.Another of my favorite sayings at the shop "thin enough to see your pours through. So in closing make sure you can wear appropriate footwear, and dedicate the attention to the tattoo, and youll be fine. |

I got a tat on the top of my right foot a week ago and it is taking much longer to heal than my others on other parts of my body. I started to peel exactly 6 days after I had the work done and I'm still peeling 8 days later. In one area, I lost white ink and in another area some black ink migrated. I clogged some pores in another area by applying too much anointment the first few days and it really itches. However, I love my new tat and I do not regret it at all. I will probably touch it up in a month or so, but it's totally worth the trouble it's giving me. My advice to anyone thinking about gettng a foot tat is this: If you really, really, really want one there like I did, do it! |

I have the better part of the top foot covered. Healing only took 1-2 weeks to heal. It was easy healing, scabbing wasn't bad. Don't wear shoes for a couple of days. When the tat was new and I was out in the sun I'd cover with sunscreen. It's about 10 years old and I don't bother with it at all, and it still has all it's color. Pain wise....8 |

I have had 6 pieces of a tattoo done that connects around my waist. I was having the last two done yesterday as well at getting my mom's name on my foot. The one on my foot hurt the least out of any of my tats. As for the healing, we will see over the next couple of weeks!!!! Dave did such a good job and designing and inking it. It looks gorgeous and I am probally the most proud of this one. |

hey! I have been considering getting me a tattoo on my foot (a triquetra) for a little while now. I am wondering, since I have a bowling league once a week and of course the shoes aren't open. is there any way that I can make it not rub and mess up my tat whenever I put my shoes on and when I have to bowl that once a week until its done healing? or does anyone think that I might have to not bowl until it heals? I am wanting to know this before I go through with it. any replies I'll really appreciate! e-mail me b/c this is my first time on this forum. Thanks! |

I just got my first tattoo ever and I got it on the top of my foot. I only got it 2 days ago and it has already began to heal wonderfully. It was proboably the most painful experience of my life, but it was all worth it because it looks gorgeous. Although everyone says it is the toughest place for healing but I must say that mine is doing excellent. So basically, TAKE A CHANCE! * Good Luck* |

A friend and I just got tattoos on our feet today. I gotta say it wasn't as bad as I had expected. BUT, I did hurt like hell. It burned for about an hour after and now its fine. Pretty tender in spots and is slightly bruised but everyone is different. Like other posts on here if you really want it, the pain doesn't matter. Looks damn hot! We love ours but we don't plan tog et any more on our feet! |
