I am looking to get an an arabic tattoo on my wrist. The only problem is im having trouble finding ANYTHING at all on the net. I just want to find a page that has the words on with the meanings.

The tattoo parlour i went too didnt have any arabic words at all. Which i thought was strange. But they said that they tend to let customers bring in there own things like that.

Hey, if you still need help with this, I'm an Arabic linguist (7 years experience). If you're looking for something to be translated (names, words, whatever) I can do that for you (but just the script... I can't really do a design or anything). Then there's a guy on the internet who does really great tattoos. Check out his site at:
www.webpersonal.net/ jordimastrullenque/tatus/index.en.html

Good luck! :)

I THINK I CAN HELP WHAT IS THE WORD IN ARABIC THAT YOU WANT TO PUT ON YOUR BODY. PLEASE NOTE IF YOU WANT SOMETHING ON YOUR BODY DOUBLE CHECK WHAT YOU ARE PUTTING ON YOUR ARM OR BODY IF YOU ARE NOT FLUENT IN THAT LANGUAGE ARABIC WORDS ARE VERY BEAUTIFUL DESIGN BUT WHY GET SOMETHING ON YOUR BODY IF NOT SURE THAT IS THE CORRECT THING AND PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THE ARTIST DOES IT THE EXACT WAY YOU HAVE IT BECAUSE ANY LINE OFF COURSE WILL MEAN A TOTAL DIFRENT THING FOR EXAMPLE IN CHINNESE IF YOU ADD A LINE OR SUBTRACT A LINE OR A SIMBOL OF THE LETTER IT WILL MEAN SOMETHING TOTALY DIFFRENT OR NOT MEAN NOTHING AT ALL. i AM A TATTOO ARTIST FOR 22 YEARS AND I HAVE CORRECTED A LOT OF WORDS THAT DID NOT MEAN WHAT THE CLIENT WANTED OR INTENDED TO HAVE ON. GOOD LUCK AND IF YOU NEED ANY TRANSLATION IN ARABIC TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT AND I WILL E-MAIL IT TO YOU AT NO COST TO YOU I WILL DO IT JUST BECAUSE I LOVE TO SEE A GOOD TATTOO AND HATE TO SEE PEOPLE WITH BAD WORK ON THEM.

Any help is appreciated, thank you

I have looked all over the web, went to numerous tattoo parlors and no luck! I wanted to get either, "dreamer" or "believer" or something around that idea. Can someone please help me? Thanks!

Hey guys,
Well Iv been reading the Quran all my life and have started doing Arabic calligraphy recently. Although I dont speak arabic, I can read and write it. If you are lucky enough to find the word you're looking for and just want it put into a design I'll be more than happy to do that for you. Sorry if this isnt much help to you, but Id suggest hitting up local arabic food marts etc. the owners almost always speak fluent arabic and will be able to help you come up with phrases and words.
Just be careful what you ask for. Some Muslims are very particular about any sort of religious motif becoming a tattoo and might just turn around and yell at you.

Roberta, nica etc.. names of the sort stay the same. They dont translate into anything (unless you know what the name translates into english) I can write those names out for you in Arabic if you'd like, the way they sound.

this won't help, but I just want to add my opinion so y'all can think about it.:

"I want to something tattooed on me. I don't know what the hell I want, but I want it in arabic."

First, I think this is a bass-ackwards approach to planning a tattoo.
Second, "arabic tattoos" are soon to be the new "chinese letters".

ok that was my "pretentious asshole" post of the year. it wasn't even that bad.

god, i can't wait till it's cool to get polish and lithuanian words tattooed on you so i can tell people to get things like "fish pussy daisy's dick:" and "bow threefold and shit on your own way." now that'll be the day. before that though I see the next big trend in idiotic tattoos being in cyrilllic. And for the 8 millionth time, if you do not speak the language, don't get a tattoo in a foreign language! don't get a tattoo because it looks cool or trendy either! jesus christ, foreigners look like morons when that "LOVE" tattoo says "AUTO-EROTIC ASFIXIATION" and then when a local asks you about it, you can't even answer them!

Why the hell would someone who does not know how to speak Arabic want to put an Arabic Tatto on their skin. If you have Arabic ancestry and are that proud of it, learn the fuckin language. If you do not have Arabic ancestry, WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU WANT AN ARABIC TATTOO.?????

Put like a fuckin american tattoo on your fuckin skin.

I come from a country with allot of people with Arabic backgrounds and my blood is also mixed with many races including Arabic. One day I would like to learn the Language but just ain't got the time!!

p.s. I have not read all the threads yet on this post, but need to say what I just did. I have been reading the forums for over a month now.

I would like to introduce myself as.....

dutchman,

hey people can put whatever the hell they want on their skin.

my curiousity is WHY. so far i've only seen one explanation (post above yours).

i guess my offense comes into play like this: many of the folks i've met that refer to 'arabs' as 'terrorists', 'sand n*g**rs', etc have turned and asked my brother and i 'hey, can you translate this to arabic so i can get it tattoo'd on my arm?' it just seems to me that it's ok to distrust, disrespect and dislike those of arab descent & heritage and then turn around and have a piece of the culture inked on the body.

hypocritical to the extreme.

add to that fact that it really bothers me that not many (if any) of these individuals can pronounce what they're getting tattoo'd on them, nor read it. for all they know that 'believe in god' tattoo really says 'i eat poop'.

just 2 cents of course. i explained it better in the foreign langauge thread, but i'm exhausted and don't feel like searching to bump it up.

-bee

I wanted my wife's name in Arabic- if a got a divorce, new girlfriend wouldn't be pissed ;o) and googled translation tattoos. Came across a site that charged a nominal fee for any word. In the end it didn't look that great and everyone and their dog were getting them so i opted for a sanscript version above a black sun with lotius flower centre- she really IS the centre of my universe

I have also often thought of getting something done in arabic/hebrew/latin to symbolise peace and spitual harmony but with existing chinese inscriptions and scottish artwork i reckon my body is already a bit mishmash though every piece means something to me.

Ok bee......

Yeh man thats a fair enough comment, but aren't you assuming that these people are all like that JUST because they want an arabic tattoo???

how many people do you actually know who call them names like that and then talk about getting tattoos....probably none!

One of my old best friends could speak write arabic etc and she wrote my name for me, and it looked beautiful, and i want it as a reminder of who i am. just my name says everything about me, and makes me think of her and how close we were before she passed away.

You shouldnt make generalisations like that, you can cause offence to people that may have reasons they dont want to disclose to everyone!!

It unfair to judge these people as racist - they are not. my friend had one in chinese, another friend had one in greek...and they all mean something to them. so dont judge!!! All language is beautiful, and having a tattoo in one is sharing that beauty.

I have one in english. And guess what i'm english.....is that stupid?? I have one comment: dont be up yourself pretending you're god almighty. You aren't, maybe you should learn some acceptance!FOR BEE

I am trying to find someone to write my sons name for me in Arabic (not on a whim - apart from the fact that I personally think Arabic is a beautiful language his father is of Arabic descent - before anyone has a go at me!) but as I am going to have it used for a tattoo its absolutely essential that I get the correct meaning of his name since its gonna be kinda permanent! My sons name is Emre and the meaning is 'medieval bard or poet' or, more literally 'deeply in love'. If anyone knows a trustworthy source (or 6 so I can compare and check!) I would really appreciate any links/advice. Thanks.

p.s. not advice on tattoos please, I already have a few and know what i'm doing!

i haven't been on here in so long (months).

guess i should feel special that i've a post directed at me.

i wasn't trying to start an argument, have no witty comebacks or explanations.

like i stated at the bottom of my post (MONTHS AGO) it was just my 2 cents. take it or leave it, i never asked you to agree, i just stated where i was coming from. you have valid points.

as for not having folks who make those statements ask for translations -- it has happened to my brother and i, that's why i brought it up. i didn't pull that shit out of the air.

regardless. valid points and well put. still doesn't change my opinion on the subject though.

I work for an independent publishing company called Mark Batty Publisher (www.markbattypublisher.com) and we're currently working on a book about Arabic tattoos in western culture. If anyone on this forum has an Arabic tattoo, please get in contact with me because we may want to use a picture of your tattoo in our book, most likely a high-resolution image you can send in an email.

Please feel free to check out our website (url above) to find out what we're all about before you respond. Hope to hear back from some of you.

RE:Arabic tattoos

Posted by smellyourface from IP: 74.225.27.130 on 03/30/07
US, Florida

I am an american, I was born and raised in florida. As many know, or... maybe you don't know, Im not sure, but florida is a pretty diverse region. In the southern populated parts I mean, were I live we have EVERYONE. Lots of hispanics, but everyone. Both of my parents are immigrants, making me half Portuguese and half Paraguayan. I speak nethier language perfectly fluently, but I know both languages well enough to were I can read it and understand when people speak. I want ethier 3 or four smaller discrete tattoos, not so huge and visible in any clothing... but that might change, Im not sure, but for now thats what I want.

I was looking everywhere for symbols, words, pictures that depict concepts like... unselfish/selfless thinking/state of mind, because want at least one tattoo that means something along the lines of that concept. I preferably want symbols, less standard writing in my eyes I suppose, so I really would rather not have traditional roman alphabet on my skin, even though I might, Im a much more spatial person, so getting a image or written phrase that is visually pleasing moreso would embrace that idea as well, that I am a visual person and I love imagery. So you see, I have put alot of thought into the tattoos I want, I want them to stand for how I live my life and how I myself want to live my life, who I am, and what I believe.

I could no where find anything that suited those ideas in the region of latin or portuguese symbols, simply because they dont have as many. Most relate to religious terms or beliefs, and drift from a real phrase or statement, the ones I found tend to all lead back to biblical references or idealogies relating to the bible. Than I found many pages of beautiful arabic and asian symbols, imagery and writing that I find visually appealing, and many represent exactly what im looking for.

I am a very worldly person, I guess I dont believe anyone should only confine themselves to one specific background and culture... I mean we all have been raised and lived surrounded with different cultures, and pride is not what Im telling people to lessen, we all should be proud of our heritage, but I personally if I have the opportunities to live in a different culture, learn a language, maybe I havent been raised or been in certain environments, learnt languages etc, but I think i would want to learn and want to embrace as much of the culture as possible. I think if more people were like that, things would be different. We should all enjoy cultures and lifestyles, not forgetting what we personally are and know, but if I learn about an arabic symbol, learn about what it means, everything it stands for, and what it stands for to me personally, that doesnt hurt anyone and Im not being contradicting to who I am.

So that all basically means, get whatever the hell you want on your skin, but its best if you put some thought into it and I think personally theres nothing wrong with getting japanese or arabic symbols tattoed to your body.

I looked at this forum before i got my tattoo and it helped me out alot! My only advice is that anyone who is getting a tattoo in a foreign language research very thoroughly what you are doing and have ur design translated back and forth. I got my name "India" tattooed on my foot in Arabic script it is so beautiful!

I wanted Jordi to design my tattoo but he never responded to me so I went to a site called www.hobok.com. But let me tell you guys they have horrible customer service. The first 3 designs that they sent me were ugly and had nude female pinup figures with the text. They didnt look like anything thaty was on their website, I told them that I was apalled and that they needed to redesign and they gave me 3 new designs. 1 beautiful and 2 more extremely ugly ones. I wouldnt recommend them at all!

I already have a tattoo in Latin, so I was wondering if it's become a bit passe & common to have a tattoo in Arabic? I'm not keen on following trends, but have always desired a tattoo in Arabic since it's in my blood.

i have found a few but clearly it is important to make sure the letters match up precisely to what you want them to say. for example. there is no p or v in arabic so watch out if your name is vivienne or paul because you will get a close second - perhaps its better to go for something thats not your name. there are some beautiful arabic calligraphic sayings. i am an arabic speaker so if you need advice feel free to email me

My suggestion to anyone who wants to get an Arabic tattoo and does not speak/read/write the language: DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, USE AN ONLINE TRANSLATOR. Please please please, for the sake of all Arabic speakers across the world, and for the sake of your own body, FIND SOMEONE WHO SPEAKS ARABIC FLUENTLY and ask them. I am sick and tired of seeing people who have Arabic tattoos and they are a total mess and completely wrong.

WOW. amazing how obnoxious and judgemental people can get. who are you to pass sentence on what someone puts under their skin in ink?? i have more issues with the little girls and boys who wander into tattoo shops and spend 2 hours looking through the "books" to find something (ANYTHING) to get slapped on their sacrum/biceps/ankle/whatever. how many butterflies and meaningless tribal armbands can there be?? apparently there's a metric assload of them out there, because i see a new one every day. i think THAT is more pathetic than searching for a piece that will actually mean something. all of my ink has purpose and meaning, even if only to me. and that's why i think you should get a tattoo...because something has moved you so much that you feel the need to carry it with you forever. i tell people all the time..."don't get one just to get one. if you're looking through the books for an image (not so much help with the design you already know you want), then you AIN'T READY."

i'd tell you to keep your snotty self-righteous comments to yourself, but my daddy fought in WWII to defend your right to say whatever the foxtrot you want to say. God Bless America.

I have been trying to research Arabic tattoos for a while now. I am not of Arabic descent, nor do I have any heritage to my knowledge from that part of the world. My father, however worked as an engineer in many middle eastern countries, including Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and others. He spent years there throughout his life, and loved these (once, in some cases) scenic and beautiful countries. He passed away when I was 13 years old, but would greet friends and family by saying "ah salama lakum" which, from what i gather means "peace be upon you" I am interested in a tattoo that says "ah salama lakum" in Arabic script, or a simple calligraphy style of writing. If anyone can help me commemorate my father by supplying correct script, please email me. thank you.

Ok, I'll try to answer as many translations as possible. I'm from the mid east, born and raised there. There are 28 letters in the Arabic alphabet but we also used what's called vowel diacritics. This site has more info about this http://www.omniglot.com/writing/arabic.htm. The translations below are the straight forward ones without the vowel diacritics since I can't type those using me American keyboard. If you really think this could make a difference email me and I can send you an attachment of the exact word with the vowel diacritics.

Family= ?????
Joy= ???
Love= ????
ambition=????

to answer Padaxes's question, for some reason the phrase doesn't make sense with me, not sure why. I do know that it does have the words love, state and beauty. One of the words might say "god" but the spelling is unfamiliar to me. Hope this helps.

integral_94, let me know via email if you're still interested in finding out how to write "peace be upon thee" in Arabic.

Hi therei, I've been looking for translation of buddhist concept of magga into arabic, actually, I don't even know if that makes sense at all, I mean translating buddhist concept into arabic, but I really badly want to have this tattoo on my forearm and since I already have an arabic script on my wrist I want the next tattoo to fit. So, if it's possible, please translate the concept magga into arabic script.

P.S. But if it's not possible I'll be satisfied with the translation of the word "control".
Thanks a lot.

hi, maybe i'm too late for this but I just want to say that i'm lebanese so if you need help just email me and i'll be glad to if i could. also be careful when choosing arabic tattoos because there are few things you should know about arabic:

-it is written from right to left opposite to english
-when letters are put in a word they become connected
-while online translators like google translate correctly single words, they often mess up when speaking about small or large phrases
-also there are many fonts used in arabic which are very distinct so don't be surprised if one word could have more than one shape

yeah also because so many people want it the word love in arabic is:
?? hob
i love you means:
???? ohibok
you could beautify it using other fonts
i don't know if you get the word or it has rectangles or question marks insted
