When I got my first black belt, I was supposed to go with a bunch of my Chinese friends and get a dragon tattooed in the palm of my left hand, (kind of a tradition) but i never did, because, well, because I was a puss. So the Ist degree black came and went, then the second, and the third, never did it because, well, I'm still a puss. Now it sounds like maybe it doesn't work so well.....

See all you 13 year olds?? Maybe there is something to this waiting bit after all!!!!!!!!

I got the palm of my hand tattooed two years ago and it is still the way it was done then. The thing I think was done differantly the second time was go deep. Once we got past all of the calis then it stayed. So far so good. But it realy hurts....

It CAN work! I found this link with an effective method:

Usually it falls out so you need to get an experienced artist and ask them specifically what they do. Kat Von D has a palm tattoo so that's proof that they don't all fade, you just need the right person with the right method.

I got my palms tattoed in january, and after about two months the shading fell out. The outlines are still there clearly, but i plan to have them redone and go deeper. How did your tat turn out after it was redone? heres a pic of mine : http://www.bebo.com/PhotoAlbumBig.jsp?MemberId=2241017182&PhotoNbr=1&PhotoAlbumId=6042707771

DONT GO DEEPER. its like getting your knuckles tattooed. YOU HAVE TO BUILD SCAR TISSUE (by having the tattoo redone). my knuckles had to be redone 4 to 5 times for them to stick and stay in. if you go deeper the tattoo is just going to eventually get blotchy and look like total shit

Now the knuckles and palm are nothing alike. i had my knuckles done 7 yrs ago with top of hand and it still looks like a brand new tattoo with absolutely no fading. Now my palm lasted about 3 months b4 fading to almost nothing and I have now had it done a 2nd time but deeper than b4 and it seems to be holding very well. You just have to get the right artist that wont blow out the lines by going so deep. I admit it was the most painful of all tattoos the 2nd time around

all things factor in, Artist, fine line or bold, & hugely the type of work you do , white collar jobs it will probably be easier to maintain as for me I am a welder so i have mine touched up at least once every 2 years

I got one on my palm two years ago. It hurt, but it's the only one I have so have nothing to compare it to.
It's a Celtic spiral about two inches in diameter, black, and I was told, rather deep. It looks just like it did when it was first done.

I did a tattoo on my own palm, first tattoo on real skin I've done and first tattoo I have on me. Here is the thing, I did an alright job and had intentions to touch up regularly. Firstly I, did not go hard and experienced little pain because I have thick skin on the palm of my hand, that was the good news, after 3 weeks the tatt is almost completely gone with only a small line remaining at where my palm meets my wrist and it is quite faded too and will likely disappear as well. So long story short; don't get a palm tattoo as I suspect you would have to go very deep and touch up several times, as well as pretty much not use your hand during the entire healing process. On the bright side if you're an aspiring tattoo artist, feel free to ink your own palm as it should go away after a few weeks.
