Yes, tattoos on the feet sting like hell (for most) and no, you shouldnt have any problems with ink loss unless you wear something really restrictive on it while its healing. Your artist will give you a full list of do's and dont's for your foot tattoo.

In my experience tattoos on extremites (speaking in general) do tend to heal with more difficulty than others. Below the wrists and ankles the skin tends to shed so quickly and so often that its difficult for tattoos in those areas to heal properly, however if ya take special care of them it should be ok!!!...TAz

Hey, I don't have a good rosary tattoo picture, but I just wanted to let you know that I got a tattoo on my right foot just above my toes about a year ago (it's the Aramaic word for "beloved") and it really didn't hurt too bad at all. Like, you're obviously aware of the fact that someone is tattooing your foot, but it was nowheres near even tearing up (and I tear up easily, believe me.). Plus, I have not had to get it touched up at all since I got it, it healed just fine, no problems at all, even when I was wearing flipflops and the straps rubbed over it, and I was told I don't need to get it touched up for a couple of years. I'll probably have it touched up in about a year and a half or so, so that I can have the same artist do it before I leave college, but I know that I don't necessarily have to. I hope that all helps!

Then you are one of the lucky ones! MOST people who get tattoos on the extremities find it not only more painful but very hard to heal!

The tattoo on my foot healed near perfect. My wifes foot has been tattooed twice and both times it peeled off like a f@#$ing sticker with traces left behind. sucks!

I got a ladybug tattooed on the side of my ankle and it took about 10 minutes. I have 5 other tattoos, all of which took between 1-3 hours... none of them hurt as much as my ankle. Plus, it went all skanky, but I think that had more to do with the tattooist who was a bit pants!

I don't have a rosary but I did get a colored tat across my foot (Blues, Purples, Pinks, and Greens) and had zero trouble with it. As I have had it two years I was expecting fading by now because of the area I have it but I have had zero issues. It didn't hurt that terrible either. Depending on the area of the foot it hurt worse...by the arch was the worst for me. But honestly I think it all depends on the artist, location, and your own tolerance to pain. If you take care of it while it is healing I don't see why there should be an issue with bleeding or fading based on my experience.

Around here it is actually really hard to get a good artist to tattoo your foot because most won't gaurentee their work because it fades or bleeds. Take the time to educate yourself and make sure you are going somewhere because the artist can do what you want...not just because they will do your foot.

Tattoos on the foot aren't any more painful than ones on any other part of hte body. I have a small butterfly, and the colour still looks really good on it. I think a rosary tattoo would probably hurt more thou if you have it done the whole way down your foot. Just try not to twitch your foot too much cus the sensation makes u wanna move your foot really bad!

I just got a tat on my left foot/ankle 2 days ago. It is a mountain bike with vines and flowers, the bike and vines start on the outer top side of my foot, just above my toes. The vine and flowers then continue up my foot and circle the outer ankle bone, the vine branches off and crosses the intersection of my foot/ankle and curl around the inner ankle bone. For me, the pain wasn't bad, the weirdest thing was like mentioned in the previous post, hitting a nerve occasionally where it would activate the reflexes in the leg, causing a twitch. The artist was well aware of this and prepared, he had a good grip on my foot. It's sort of like hitting the funnybone nerve, but less painful and lasts just 1 or 2 seconds. I could feel it up into my hip sometimes. Odd but not painful. Just makes your leg jump. BTW, it's an AWESOME tat! I'm really happy. My foot is swollen a little but not red or anything. I have read that the swelling in normal with feet tats.

A proper Rosary has 59 beads, so, unless you wrap it around the ankle a couple times, what you folks are talking about is not a Rosary, It is a chain with a cross, something considerably different, like the necklace (not Rosary) Nicole Ritchie has which quite possibly started this craze.
I 've seen a number of these so-called 'Rosaries' done on ankles (and elsewhere) and damn few were accurate (none around ankles) and I assure you, the wearers were not too happy to find out their 'Rosary' really wasn't a Rosary. And, somehow I seriously doubt I'm the only person who notices these, bear in mind it is not something that can be 'added' later. Google Rosaries if you think I'm wrong. Doc

In reply to Doctor John's comment about "these so-called 'Rosaries'" - these types of ankle or bracelet rosaries is not a craze, but a genuine form of praying the rosary. This prayer beads contains 11 beads (1 and a crucifix, and one decade), for those devote in the Catholic faith know this. I plan on getting the ankle rosary tattoo and googled and found this topic. I'm glad I found this - I want others to know (from a devote Catholic) this is not a craze but a true expression of faith.

Not to be argumentitive but I would genuinely like to know the source of your information as if there actually is such a Catholic Rosary, I'd very much like to know about it. I did 'Google' Catholic Rosaries just to double check but dispite checking various sources could not find anything to support your statement. Kindly advise me as to where I could find that information.

I'm catholic. And we do have rosaries that have only 11 beads plus the crucifix. It's the same thing as the real rosary except it's shorter. A lot of people in my country wear it around their wrists (like how some catholics wear a necklace with a cross pendant around their neck) and it's the same thing as when we use it to pray. We just use the same 10 beads over and over again. The 11th bead is for the Apostles Creed I think. If you're catholic, you know how to pray the rosary by heart and don't actually need the necklace to pray it. I personally use it just so I don't get lost during the praying of the 10 holy mary's. It's more like a symbol of faith. Like how some people make the sign of the cross when their scared/afraid. Carrying the rosary around makes the person feel safer.

Not to split hairs, but the ten bead 'Decade' is not, IMHO, a true Rosary but a variation. For further clarification see;http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosary

I'm looking into the "rosary" ankle tattoo also, and from reading all the statements here, I can't tell if its going to hurt like a bitch or not, haha. Most say it hurts like crazy and then some say it doesn't hurt at all...considering that I don't have a high pain tolerance it'll probably hurt like hell...I also pass out whwn I get shots, or when I get a finger prick - it's a phobia, I'm hoping this won't stop me from getting a tattoo... :'(

wow its just a tattoo if you believe in it and love it then get it! as long as it means something to you thats all that matters.. you shouldn't have to prove something for it to be accepted.. God himself wouldn't shun someone for having one more bead than needed.. just get what means something to you! 8)

the real problem with the rosary tattoo on the foot is that it's a ridiculous contradiction of dedications....it's a catholic icon, and the foot is not an honorary place to put something you're supposedly honoring. the foot is a symbolically filthy part of the body (thus the significance of the gesture when jesus washed the feet of his apostles--and the significance of the insult of shoe-throwing in muslim cultures) on the other hand (pun intended), If you're getting the tattoo to show distain for the catholics or jesus or his mother...your right on, if you're doing to show dedication to some christian thing, you kinda missed it. and, among the faithful, the rosary is never to be worn as jewelry. it's not a necklace. the catholics have something called a scapular if you insist on christian voodoo around your neck....why would you emulate nicole richie anyway? i think she started this rosary on the foot thing --the deluded christian tramp stamp of the next decade. by the way, i'm an atheist--it's your body, do what you want...put a cross in the crack of your a$$ for all i care. just don't act like it's some great symbolic gesture of dedication to that lost cause.

I'm also looking into getting a rosary tattoo on my ankle, i have a rose on my left ankle and it hurt like crazy ,
anyways, i was thinking whether it is disrespectful to get a rosary on your ankle. because your ankle isnt the most sacred place on your body and its near the ground, people hold the rosary to a high standard and also because i was told that wearing a rosary around your neck is disrespectful, what difference does it make when its on your foot ?

Honestly, I don't think it's disrespectful if your intentions are respectful. If you're doing it as a fashion statement, then I personally feel it's disrespectful, just like it irritates me to see a rosary around someone's neck as a fashion statement, as opposed to devot christians who wear them as a symbol of their faith and/or when they're praying.

a rosary is used as a physical symbol of the prayers that are said as part of the rosary. since 10 hail marys are said per decade, the beads help you keep track, although you can use anything, even your fingers. :) when i pray the rosary, it's like a mediation for me, and the prayers i say out loud (our father, hail mary, glory be, etc) are just the "background music" for the prayers i'm thinking in my head.
in case you were ever wondering how it's done =)

now, the rosary has 5 decades with 10 beads per decade, but their are bracelets, rings, etc, that have 10 beads on them as a "decade rosary." i actually have one on my key chain: 10 bead and a cross. (traditionally, though, a crucifix is used, not just a cross) and a ring with 10 little knobs on it that i keep in my purse.

if i got a tattoo, i'd like to get this one. but i'm diabetic, so i really don't see that happening, unfortunately.
