Tattoo on Bottom of Foot?

Posted by deniselea@comcast.net from IP: 170.63.96.108 on 02/07/06

Hi...I'm thinking about getting another tattoo. I would like it on the bottom of my foot at the heel end. Does anyone know if this is possible? Has anyone had one in this area? If so, is the healing process difficult since you're walking on the tattoo?

Any info regarding getting inked in that location would be appreciated.

Thanks,
--D

In an old shop I worked in, a few of the artists on a slow day tattooed squashed bugs on each others heel. They didn't even make it 2 weeks.

i have the bottom of my foot tattoo. a really basic flower, red bud, black stem. after the 2-3 month healing process i got it covered up with a celtic shamrock. this week i am going for my third attempt to cover the red from the original tat. even though we have hit the red really hard with black, when the scab falls off, so does the black leaving me with the red bud. really think hard about tattooing the bottom of your foot, it takes a long time to heal and is quite a financial investment, i ve already invested $330.

Only two months after initial outlines were done on my feet, the lines on the sides closest to the sole are simply dissolving. Some have already been hit a second time because they began to dissappear even sooner. The lines on the top look great.

The tats are nowhere near finished, and now we need to spend part of each session going over these same lines to strengthen them before coloring. The ink was put in DEEP, so I doubt that was a factor, but the reality is that these areas of the foot regenerate skin so fast, that wear or no wear, everything goes right with it.

I had once thought about getting tats on the soles of my feet, but after seeing how the sides of the foot interact with ink, I wouldn't waste the time or money.

Best of luck
TCE

..................And as Erlich mentioned, the healing has been a real pain in the ass at times, with open wounds and swelling which wouldn't resolve for two weeks or more.

I want to get a line work mendala-indigo colored- on the arch on the bottom of my foot. I was told by one place already they wouldn't do it because the foot sweats alot. But I'm thinking thats more the ball heal and toes, as those are what are in contact with the ground. I have a high arch that doesn't really touch the ground when I walk. It's also not the same thick skin as the other parts of the bottom of the foot. What do you think?

Feet are a very tricky place to put tattoos. I've done a few feet, on the bottom, that is, and they all fade because of exactly what everyone here has mentioned. The healing is a pain in the butt because with the issue of having to keep it clean and having salve to promote healing. Do you do alot of walking in your job? Do you wear socks or hose with your shoes? And the hundred thousand dollar question - are you diabetic? These are questions you have to look at because the bottom of the feet a tattooi artist will definately frown upon. Don't compromise yourself and the health of your foot for something you may regret later. Have you considered the thought of possibly having the same tattoo on another part of your body? If not, give it some thought.

I'd suggest you read and heed the previous post regarding getting a tattoo on the bottom of your foot, for all the reasons already stated. Add to that the simple fact that most competent and experienced tattoo artist won't even consider doing it in the first place. Considering the obvious fact you have a lot of skin, in areas that would take it so much better, I'm kinda curious as to why anyone would even want one on the bottom of their foot in the first place. I WANT A TAT ON THE BOTTOM OF MY FOOT BECAUSE THAT IS THE ABSOLUTELY LEAST LIKELY PLACE ANYONE WOULD EVER SEE IT. I WANT ONE THAT NO ONE BUT ME WILL KNOW ABOUT. IT'S PERSONAL. I DON'T NEED ANYONE TO UNDERSTAND. BUT THAT'S WHY.

hey,
I would love a tattoo on the heel of my left foot. I have cerebral palsy and this causes me to walk on the ball of my foot (only on my left leg). This means that the heel on my left foot never touches the ground, and the skin is still extremely soft.

In this case would a tattoo here being ok?

Thanks xx

It's an old naval tradition to tattoo a cross/crucifix on the bottom of each foot. Legend is that it wards off sharks if one ended up overboard at sea.

Does it hurt as much if you get it on the ball of your foot? It seems like a pretty tough spot. I understand that they fade and all but I want it and i was just wondering if it hurt as much as people said it did or if it was just bc they got it in the arches?

i have a symbol in the arch of my foot. as long as you keep moisturising, cleaning and put in a soft padding when u wear socks then it should stay ok. It takes quite a bit of looking after for the first few weeks but it was worth it for me. its pretty painful too. jim.

recently got a red heart 1.5in by 1 in on the bottom of my left foot in the arch. didnt hurt when i got it at all. didnt take long to heal at all. i dont know why everyone always says dont get one on your bottom of your foot. i called ten places and found one place that would even do it. its still there for me, but a few lines are fading a small amount. just needs touched up. but no, it didnt hurt. didnt hurt that day to waitress nine hours on it directly afterwards. didnt get infected. have had no problems whatsoever.

I recently got a tattoo on the bottom of my left foot, but on the arch. I put a lot of thought into it and decided to do it. It really hurt when I got it done, but I just thought of it as a bas foot massage, anywayyyyy, that's besides the point. I think it's a great place for a personal tattoo, and I know for a fact that it wont fade away like the other parts of the foot.

I recently got a butterfly on the bottom of my foot. One of the wings is in the arch and is still dark but hasn't scabbed yet but the other three wings are at parts where I walk every day and are fading after just a week. I have been wearing socks (using a gauze) though because I work at a camp and couldn't not wear socks so I think that is a reason for it fading so quickly. I am getting touch up on the black next week and am staying off my foot for like two weeks hoping that it stays better this time.

Sorry Britt, I have been researching about this type of tattoo for years, Wanted to get Made in Italy tattoed on the bottom of the foot. your going to have to fight my copyright for it.

I have a size 13 foot so i got lots of space to cover. i want to go for that action figure look.
Is it really just going to wear off?

I had a star tattooed on the bottom of my foot 3 years ago now, its located in the arch and its about 1 inch by 1.5 inch. I allowed lots of healing time for it, seriously, i barely walked on it over a course of 3 weeks, applied loads of vaseline/ moisturiser and wore lots of padding for the first six weeks. After about 7 weeks it was completely healed, it took a while for all the scabs to drop off but i really tried hard not to budge them to try and let the colour last longer. A year on, my tattoo had faded quite a lot, however it seems to have come to a standstill and three years on doesn't seem to have faded much more.
I would definitely have it done all over again. And for those who are unsure.... go for it! Whats the worst that can happen? A "waste" of £30?! At least you'll know. I really do beleive that a lot of it is in the healing stage.

If you are considering getting a tattoo on the arch of the foot, remember that everyone's arches are different; some people have high arches so this part of the foot won't have a lot of contact when walking, but some people are quite flat-footed, so it may be more difficult for it to heal for them .

I have a tattoo on the bottom of my foot, three circles right in the center of my foot. It was extremely painful to do (I do all of my tats myself) but once it healed it hasn't changed much.

I am highly considering a tattoo on my foot. I have been obsessed with Toy Story since I was a child and the 3rd movie essentially closed the chapter of innocence in my life. I feel like getting "Andy" tattooed on the bottom of my foot would be an intense, subtle way of always showing my love for the series and my ambition to never grow up at heart. I have read a lot of bashing about foot tattoos on here but I think I'm going for this one, which will be my second tat overall.

Well 3 weeks ago at about 2am me and my friend (a tattooist) were talking about the myth that if in some shops you get a tattoo the size of a 20 pence coin on your foot you can have a free tattoo as it hurt so much. Well i got the 20 pence outline with the number 52 in it(my lucky number) on the arch and a 'R' on my big toe.

1) Didnt hurt!!
2) The R lasted about a week and after 3weeks the 52 is almost gone.

Hey there, I had both the soles of my feet tattoo'd a year ago, my first ones may I add, and they still look just as good as when I first got them. I got them just in the arches so they are not in constant contact when walking. It hurt like hell I shan't lie and the healing process was a pain, literally, but I think it's so worth it, so much I'm actually going in for more :) so think you should just go for it in my opinion, great unique thing to have and will definitely test your pain threshold!
