The ace of spades is the death card. It was used on the helmets of g.i.'s in Vietnam, their hope was that if the enemy saw it, representing death, they would not be fired at.

As I said in a similar post. The spade is an extremely important object in the history of Marine Recon. As for it being an icon for any other types of military units, fuck them, they don't deserve our spade. After a Recon Marines first combat deployment, he gets the Recon Combat Jack tattooed either on the inside of his right bicep or across his back. The spade is then used as a kill count/kill tally. The spades can be arranged in different patterns or colors, and a change in color represents a different mission or deployment. A green spade, at a seperate place on the body, represents a lost brother. Enjoy that history, Aaruga.
