Not happy with my brand new tattoo

Posted by sxystyles3 on 09/19/05
Ohio

I just got a tattoo of a claddagh a few days ago. I'd seen the studio's work on my friends and always thought they did a good job. However the colors are not as bold as I really wanted and the shading in the hands makes them look dirty. They guarente their work for life and said I could get the color retouched for free if I ever needed it. So should I go back to the same shop and ask for someone else to retouch it other then the original artist that did the crappy work of go somewhere else. I've seen more detail in tats smaller then mine (its about 4 inches wide and 3 inches tall) but the artist disregarded my drawing i gave him and left out most the detail telling me that all that detail would only look blurred later. I can send a pic of the tatto to anyone if someone thinks they have some advice for me.Angelgurl777_2000@hotmail.com

its only a few days old. give the tattoo a couple of weeks to really settle in and heal. then see what it looks like. post a pic. that will help us see what you got..

If it makes you feel better, I've gotten some really crappy tattoos in my life.
Since you already know this, It's not a great tattoo. The shading on the hands looks kinda randomly placed, and the white highlights on the heart are rather unconvincing.
I took a look at their website and I'm not really suprised; nothing really impressive there.
The question is, would you trust the same people who did the tattoo this way to be the ones to fix it? I sure as heckfire wouldn't.
But since Tattoonow is such a fantastic resource, I found http://bodylanguagetattoo.com in under a minute. Lots of solid artwork there, all the guys seem to have a good understanding of shadows and highlights. If it were ME, I would go there and ask what can be done.

thanks for posting the picture. i definately wouldnt go back there. give the tattoo a month to heal and find a good artist in your area even f it involves waiting a little longer then you want to. im not sure where in ohio you are but mike dorsey at permanant productons in cincinati(?) does great work. good luck and let us know what happens.

not the greatest work, but not the worst I've seen either. I'd at least go back & be honest with the artist- not rude, but just let him/her know that you aren't happy with it. Look at his/her portfolio to decide whether or not you want him/her to fix it or let someone else tackle it. Some artists won't touch others' work.
If you really aren't happy with it after it's healed, you may consider getting it covered.....doesn't look like it'd be hard to do. Then you could get that tattoo again, but somewhere else & by another artist who will do the artwork justice.

The shading looks terrible, I would be inclined to once healed to go over the shading on the hands with white to lighten it slightly, just a poor application of "source of light".

That tattoo is a very good example of why people should not learn tattooing from a book or an internet forum.
Did the "artist" show you a drawing of that crap before he scarred you? If so, why would you allow them to do it? If not, why would you trust them to tattoo you?
