Hi!!! I am looking to have "Beautiful", in arabic script, tattooed on the nape of my neck. It will be relatively small (already designed) but I'm curious about aftercare. I've heard that this is one of the most painful places to tattoo....but I just read an online aftercare thing that had all these warnings about showering, etc etc and water on the tattoo. I have hair down to my hips, which I wash every day, etc- are there any specific aftercare things I should know based on the location of the tat? I already know to use a sunblock (I use an SPF 45 every day already) l'm also concerned about the size/bleeding of text issue since I want the piece to be small. (5 inches or so). Is this area more prone to bleeding?? salaams, raquel evita www.translatingmyborderlands.com
Hi, I just got a large Borneo tribal tattoo the right side of my neck. it did not bleed much, they only thing that has sucked so far about it is the I cant move head around very well. my artist told me it will take a few days longer for it to heal. but you dont have to worry about it bleeding very much.
also, I have long hair like you do , the best thing you can do while it heals is to wear it up like I am doing right now and when you are outside in sunlight wear something around your neck to protect it from the sun.I have been washing my 3 times a day and putting fragrance free Lubriderm on it 4-to-6 times a day.when you take a shower you should have no problems but dont let it get wet for too long or go swimming for a few weeks. if you want to know anything more feel free to contact me.
If my neck tattoo was my first one, it would have been my last one. Check out the Lovebirds tattoo I gots! Who says you cant be macho and have love birds tattooed on you? :-) Im macho. yep. I am. I swear.
I got a tat on the back of my neck, kinda in my hair line, kinda out... It was the LEAST painful one I have ever had!! I did not even know the artist had worked on one side!! As for the aftercare..THis was the 1st tat I ever 'wet healed' It scabbed up a little and it was a little uncomfortable to turn my head for a few days, but it kept the color great!! All in all, it was well worth it! The tat was supposed to be all the way in my hair (my head wsa half shaved) but the artist put it down a little too low. Now, since I am a paralegal in a small town in Alabama I can't wear my hair up.... but I still love my tats!!!
I just had my very first tat on the nape of my neck, some arabic script, I too was told by various sources that I had picked the worst site for my first tat.
They were right!!! I felt like my neck was being attacked by a pneumatic drill! not so much painful, just bloody uncomfortable! more the vibration really with a bit stinging.......go for it! I walked out the tat parlour feelin like I had won the lottery.

salaamz brother i have a portrait of my nephew on my neck and i can tell you it does hurts but it is the sort of pain you can handle like a headache.. it will bleed alot as there is hardly any fat tissue in that area. as for aftercare i recomend not to wash your hair for 3 days at least. or you can get someone to wash your head in a sink that is the other option. standard anti septic cream would be benfical for the tattoo.. wasalaamz akhee

Yesterday, i got my first tattoo. Being 17, i was pretty nervous. I too got it on my neck. I have " You are my sunshine" written in Swedish on the back. In the beginning yes it hurt... not so much unbearable.. but very uncomfortable. After about 20 minutes the terrible pains started to go away. Mine takes up the entire back of my neck, and the only time it hurt was when he was close to my hairline. I did a lot of research before i got a tattoo and that is what freaked me out! I read things saying how terrible it was, but to be completely honest. I'm a giant baby, i hate needles and i have a low pain tolerance && It wasn't that bad... I'm sure you'll be fine. :)
