Ear tattoo

I have never had a tattoo and would like one on my earlobe(only, not the cartilage). Are there any problems associated with this? Will I be able to get this done at any tattoo studio? How do I know where to go-questions to ask? OR am I making something out of nothing?? I was going to let a novice tattooist do it so he could add it to his portfolio-is this a bad idea?

Most shop's won't tattoo your ear..simply because it's your first tattoo..And u should get it where it's not so visible..like shoulder blade,hip,upper arm..And u shouldn't let someone tattoo u on such a visible spot,so that they can build a portfolio.On september 23-25 there's a tattoo convention in Cincinnati..check out prickmag.net and www.F14hellkat.com is in columbus,and evolvedbodyart.com

I want my tattoo where I can see it and enjoy seeing it. Right now I dont want to spend money, skin and the discomfort and not even know its there after it heals. I love the body art and am anxious to have something of mine. This isnt a whim kinda thing-Ive wanted one for years and just hasnt been feasible until now.

Is letting a novice tattoo you in a place that is incredibly visible a bad idea?

Answer: All Signs Point To Incredibly Bad Idea

For what it's worth our society still isn't fully embracing tattoos. Sure we all know there are 'reality' tv shows that are breaking the ice, but by and large its still met with an air of hostility. If you want to help out a friend and be a scratchpad that's cool but, it's their responsibility as a tattooist to get a lot of work under their belt before putting something that isn't easily covered out there. Let them practice on areas that, in a few years if they keep with it, they won't avoid you on the street, and save up and go to a great shop if you still want the tattoo. Then again, do what you want, I am just a random voice on the interweb, but laser surgery friggin' sucks.

hi,

personnaly, i think ear isn't a very visible aera. especialy if you got long hair, but i admit that lobe is more visible thant cartilage. If its your first tattoo just think about it seriously because ears are a bodypart which is going to grow until the end of your life and its could change the shape or the tattoo and make it weird or just ugly especialy for the lobe because its a soft and very flexible. I think you could visit some studios to get more information from people with experience. I actualy think about it too, i want to get musicnotes on the top of the ear cartilage. and im gettin more information about it. And the lobe is more rich in veins than the top part of the ear so healing is faster and safer. I hope i could help you ever if my english is poor because im french so... sorry for the mistakes.

Yeah...I would have to agree with the whole no-novice thing. I've never seen an earlobe coverup...although I guess they must exist, but from a purely logistical standpoint the area is so freaking small that any mistake would be difficult to fix. If you want to help your friend out, help him out, but do it in such a way as he won't permanently screw up an area of your body just by accident.

Also, a tattoo in that area is so small that when it ages, the likelihood of it getting all blobby like is pretty high. I would have to think even more so if you have pierced ears, because pierced ears get saggy and folded when you get old as well (remember grandma's ears?). Of course, all of these things could go just fine, and you might not have any problems at all, but to me that's just too many ways that it could go wrong-ish.

You know, you might try wearing complex ear cuffs or something like that. It would give you something like the same feeling but be interchangeable. I know that there's a couple of people that make neat-o custom non-piercing cuffs on the internet as I was thinking of wearing a pair for my wedding (still might!). I've seen some that are super intricate with flowers and vines and all that fancy stuff, and in reality is much more neat detail than you could get in a tattoo in that area.

I AM NOT ABLE TO WEAR EARRINGS SO I GOT THE IDEA TO PUT A TATTOO ON MY EARLOBE, I GOT A BLUE STAR ON EACH EAR. NOT ONLY DO PEOPLE COMENT ON THEM SAYING THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE BUT A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE THEM. AS WITH TATTOOS HURTING (I HAVE 12 SO I KNOW) THE EARLOBE IS SENSITIVE WHEN YOU GET IT PIERCED BUT THE TATTOO NEEDLE ONLY GOES THROUGH THE FIRST FEW LAYERS OF SKING AND YOU DONT HAVE MANY NERVE ENDINGS IN THE TIP. IT DOESNT HURT. I AGREE THAT BECAUSE IT IS VISABLE YOU SHOULD LET SOMEONE WITH EXPERIENCE DO IT BUT AS FAR AS THE WORLD IS CONCERNED, IF YOU LIKE IT YOUR THE ONE WHO HAS TO WEAR IT NOT THEM, SO IF THEY DONT LIKE YOUR TATTOO THEY CAN SUCK IT.

Ear tattos imo, are fantastic. if you get one on the cartilege, dont expect it to look 100% pefrect. there 'hard' to do and dont look as if you were to get it on your arm or neck. I have a peace sign on my upper ear, it was my first tattoo when I was 17 and it looks homemade. it wasnt the best tattoo, but every other tattoo artist I meet agrees that its very good for an upper ear tattoo

as for visability, people can see it if I want them to see it, and unless they know its there, they relaly dont notice it.

i got a hummingbeard on my upper left ear.. LOVE IT.. now want something on my left ear.. just haven't decided yet on what!
but yes, since it is such a small area to tattoo.. i would suggest having it done by someone who's work you've checked out etc.

I have a star on both ear lobs and and truly enjoy them. I waited sometime before doing them. I also have a Lot of other work now. But right now they are one of the true favorites and I get nothing but favorable comments.

so i've learned from the above comments to get something that doesn't have much detail.

i was hoping to do something similar to that of a cherry blossom on my cartilage and have a stem running down towards my ear lobe (however i have 3 piercings down there so it wouldnt go too far).
i
'm wondering where on my ear to expect the most pain.. and how long did it take to heal/does it heal differently than other tattoos?

I just got my cartelige tattooed yesterday. It was my first tattoo and I must say I was not expecting that much pain and blood. I got a sweet looking treble clef on my ear, and it looks perfect. The tattoo artist did a great job, but it hurt sooooo bad. the very top of your ear doesn't hurt as bad as when you get to the middle. i don't know why but that was my experience. I am very happy with my tattoo and it took me forever to get it, because the first salon I went at said they would not tattoo my ear because they have never done it before. then i went to another and they said that they will but they told me the risks involved and why it was 100 dollars! it is because it is the most riskiest place to get a tattoo and any wrong move could blow your whole ear. but i was set on getting it anyway and i am sooo happy i did. its beautiful and so original.

I got two music notes tattooed on my cartilage and hid it from my parents for five months. I would just wear my hair down! but it hurt sooo bad! but it only lasted like five minutes! It was definitely worth the pain and it still looks awesome!

I got my right earlobe tattood 22 years ago. I am 42 now and i still love it! I got it on my earlobe because i wanted it in a place that could be hidden if need be because of my job.....and my parents. it didn,t hurt at all. it actually kinda tickled a little bit. i have gotten nothing but compliments on it. i still plan on having the left one done someday. the only other tattoo I have is on my left thumb.
