Scream Ink Lawsuit

Posted by Blistered and Bleeding from IP: 72.68.190.233 on 10/24/07
New York, NY

Well, Its now been almost 2 years since I have been infected with this Scream Ink Bullshit. The ferrari red was used and caused this huge blistered and bleeding crap all over my body. Ive been reading about other lawsuits against the company. I know that I have a meeting with people from WWtatoo and their reps as well their lawyers and mine.

If anyone out there reads this, just post something of an update on how long you have had the tattoo and how its gotten worse/better over time.

As for me, its the same. Cysts were growing in the effected areas and were being popped out like pimples. They were perfectly round white balls. Even had one the size of a matchstick head.

My lawsuit has been going on for over a year now and hopefully these assholes will settle their case and pay to get this shit removed. Anyone out there have any updates on their cases?

And to anyone who is going to have a negative comment on what I am doing, think about how many people have suffered cause of them. Why should they still exist? More lawsuits against this company will possibly shut them down and stop the distro of this ink to your tattooed peers. Scratchers and Professionals shouldnt have to suffer the reprocussions of the reactions of this ink. No one should.
Email me at : PanicPhotography@yahoo.com if you have any updates or questions.

And Taz, thanks for posting that 3 lawyers contacted you, that means there are 2 others out there. Im just trying to call them out.

Good luck with the case bro, I hope you can manage to get paid for medical service.
Did you sign a waiver? Did you get the tattoo at a reputable shop? Any tattoo waiver will tell you that you acknowledge the risks of ink reactions. I just don't know how your lawyers are going to go against that. If you went to a scratcher to get this tattoo done you should smack yourself a little and be accountable for your wrong doing.
Most red inks cause reactions on some people.

Your artist should have known better that scream ink is just garbage for scratchers.
I would question the artist why he used below standard product on your body. Where were his balls when he bought these inks.

Hope you get scream ink out of the market as they will continue selling this shit to scratchers.

My name is Melissa and the same thing is happening to me. I am kicking myself for going to a scratcher, but we all do stupid things sometimes. I have had this problem with my arm for 2 years now, and when I pick at it the same thing happens to me. Little white balls come out of my skin and leave a hole that eventually heals and scabs. I know that she used Ferrari Red Scream Ink because I went with her to pick it up. I had no idea that it wasn't good ink. These days we're starting a tattoo shop and I know the prices of good ink and feel like a fool for what I did back then. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. I know it's not the scratchers fault, but I would still like to stick my you-know-what in her you-know-where. Anyhow, to anyone reading this Please make sure that you know what ink they are using. I would recommened Starbrite Ink.
Thanks and Good Luck with Everything!!!

I feel for you, tripsgirl, and the fact that you got tattooed with crap you can readily buy on e-bay. Starbright is good, but I prefer Waverley or Unique ink which has never, ever given me nor my customers any problems. You may, if you haven't already, want to pay a visit to a dermatologist to see what can be done with your situation. Unfortunately, many people who are tattooed by someone who doesn't know our craft are asking for trouble and it's not until after the fact they have problems is it too late to do anything. I'm sorry this happened to you and "artists" like this give us real tattooists a bad rap!

Thanks Viper I really appreciate what you said and I am going to try the Unique Ink. It's a shame that this has to happen to people, but everyone wants to be a tattooist, you know. I just hope that she is not using that same ink on other people that she used on me. The sad thing is that I don't even know where she is or what she's doing now... I haven't seen her since she did that tattoo on me, I don't think she even knows that it happened to me. I know that it's not her fault, but still I kind of hold her responsible because she should have known, maybe done some research like I have about Inks and stuff. So just wanted to say thanks. I am always looking for new ways to get even better at the craft.

Is this not the ink that has been recalled?

Those symptoms you are describing sound a lot like MRSA, have you gotten checked for that. If you went to a scratcher like you said you may have a disease as well as a reaction to the ink.

Oh yeah and Starrbrite is in a lot of crap now too because of metals in their ink, cadmium especially. Here in Canada they are implementing the European Standards where every ink has to have a MSDS and labels telling what is in them. Smart idea to let people know what they are putting into someone elses body.

Scream was recalled for the red 2 years ago because of 1 individual reaction, it was re-formulated and has had no problem since.
Pretty much all the major suppliers have had reactions also, of course on the net you only here the bad stories.

VERY FEW PEOPLE REACT TO TATTOO INK THAT'S MADE PROFESIONALLY IT'S THE PERSONS BODY THAT CAUSES THE REACTION TO THE INK NOT THE INK TO THE BODY. MAYBE YOU'RE NOT BUILT TO HANDLE BEING TATTOOED.

I resent the fact that some of you play it off like you somehow knew all along that scream brand ink was junk and only used by scratchers and people who didn't know better. Scream has been sold by some reputable suppliers and doesn't cost any less than what Skin Candy goes for. I have used Milllenium brand inks for most of the duration of my tattooing career but was looking for some variety in color and bought some scream colors. It's actually pretty good pigment. It goes in way easier than Millenium and stays nice and bright after the tattoo heals. So don't cop the attitude like YOU knew better all along. I used the ferarri red in a couple people besides myself (I always test new pigments on myself first) and didn't have a reaction until after about the third tattoo. Then they all reacted. This is the first I've heard about any lawsuit. I do think that companies should be held accountable for their products. I don't however think that any lawsuits will ever go anywhere simply because scream puts a disclaimer on all of their pigments just like most other brands. Please keep us updated on the lawsuit. I feel way worse about my clients than myself but I would like to see something good come from this. And fyi, the scream red I bought was purchased less than a year ago...

This kinda problem is why I've waited for a pigment/ink to be out for 2-3 yrs., then contact the manufacturer and request names of shops/tattoo artist that use it, who I then contact for their opinion. I may not have always had the lastest/greatest colors due to that habit but on the other hand, I'm very proud of the fact that I've been tattooing for over 44 yrs. now and have never had a single pigment reaction. I realize it may be too late for that for some of you but it's worked for me and I still think it's the safer/wiser way.
Perhaps even moreso nowadays when there are so many people selling pigment who haven't been around long enough to have a good track record. I'll be damned if I'll put my rep or clients health on the line blindly trusting any of those people.

I would just like to say that with any type of ink there is always a risk that the body will reject it.

point being whenever you place a foreign object in the body wether it be tattoo ink a peice of body jewelery or even an organ transplant there is always a risk that the body will reject it.

yes there may be a chemical in the red ink that people are more prone to rejecting it.

I believe my brother got a tatt on his arm with some red spots. This was a reputable tat shop with a long standing in the community. Not sure what brand of ink but yes he was complaining about a few lil bumps in red spots of tat .

Im guessing the best solution is to buy whatever brand you feel is safest. I've used some different colors from scream an the black an havn't had any problems. The colors go in good and smooth and stay bright after it heals, havn't tried the red yet. Deffinetly makes me think twice about it. May test it on a small area and see what it does.

I'll deffinetly warn neone that needs alot of red in a tat about the possible after affects.

BUT I'D SAY THE WORST THING TO DO IS PICK AT THE BUMPS this will prolly just further irritate the skin and possibly cause an infection picking at bumps with your dirty fingers.. this won't solve nething

used scream ink B4 and like it it does go in great, most of these pigments are made with metals just like alot of other pigment for other medias, painting oil, acrylic. been a tattooist for a little over 6 years now, and i have a BA major bio/chem & minor in fine art/ And RED IS MY FAV COLOR SO I MUST DEFEND! so as for you guys and gals that care, tattooed or tattoist red is made with Cinnabar (HgS), Cadmium Red (CdSe) and used in screams questioned reds, Iron Oxide (Fe2O3) and Napthol-AS, If you are prone to Allergic reactions or cautious go to Dermotoligist and get a allergy test done prior to your tattoo, All reds shades and including pinks and flesh tones carry a risk of reaction due to these metals but chances are slim to none, you have a higher risk of getting burns in MRI in you red tattoo, MOST INKS are metal based but there are new pigments out there that are made from plastic's, I Personally Contact the supplier and find out the specs before. how ever Napthol is the safer red metal on the market, Massaros based out of Chi-town has great less pricey ink that is nice and thick works like mud & Homoginized Perfectly, Spaulding uses metal in all pigments but there great, Intenz i belive is mostly made up of plastics never used it but an artist in my shop swears by it, I'll wait till economy clears up for that! Regardless of brand all Made the same mostly find out what they are made of and the parts per ounce, and you will save your self tons of money, EBAY you pay more per ounce for ink, and there's too many copy cats. Then going directly to a supplier, some suppliers have ebay stores and will answer all your questions I.E. Massaros, WWTattoo Anyway but as for the law suits sound like they don't hold any water sorry for the reaction but most dermotoligst and doctors can do the same thing i just did breck it down and it sounds more the infected and tattooist fault then the company, MRSA and any other blood bourne is your tattooist fault. PERIOD other infections caused by you picking at it and not washing it is YOU, GOOD LUCK ALL and I hope this Breakdown Helped for the confused it's ok i had to take almost 3 years of this crap to get a semi right, Forgive the spelling it's 4am

I was tattooed with Ferarri red scream ink about 2 years ago to 2 and a half and so were about 24 other in the shop that i went to, and it just so happens that all of us came back with the same complaint of an ichy, puffy, swollen, dry, flakey, painfull tattoo. This is no coincidence (excuse the spelling). Previously i read
"I'VE USED SCREAM INK GOIN ON 4 YEARS NOW AND YET TO HAVE ANYONE WITH THESE PROBLEMS YOU SIGN A FORM BEFORE THE TATTOO WARNING YOU OF THE RISK INVOLED. You mean to tell me that even if the tattoo shop is using ink that was not FDA approved and had been RECALLED, that it is still the fault of the person receiving the tattoo due to bad aftercare? That form we sign when getting tattooed is compleatly void if the tattooist doesnt think to even research the ink they are putting into there clients. Plus the fact that it puts a damper on the reputation of the shop if they are refusing to help anyone with they're situation!!!! Are you gonna go back to a shop that fucked you over? Hell no!

If you had red bumps around the area did you use a patrolium based product for after care i bet you did and another thing if it got worst did you go to a pysician with these 24 other people and did these 24 get tested and swabed for MRSA, did you call the health department??? NO, NO, NoT EXACTLY, sorry Niki but you sound kinda dumb and not thinking of all the possiblitys

I have been suffering from an allergic reaction to the red ink from scream for two years. It was homemade and I was such a fool to have this guy work on me. If I'd known now what I didn't know then I would have ran as fast as I could in the other direction! I have had pills creams ointments antifungal medicines etc. It is way past using vitamin e ointment, neosporin, a and d ointment and I even saw two different dermatologists who on two different occasions injected me with a liquid steriod called kenolog. Then I was refered to a lazor surgeon. I am on my 7th lazor surgery and the ink and the allergy are still there. The lazor surgery is $360.00 a treatment! When I get the treatment there is no numbing the area at all it's just sraight up burned over the already infected spot! Hurts like hell!! This tattoo causes me to wake up at night because the itching is so intense. It's not like I can help myself to just "not sratch it". It is extremely sensitive to the heat of a shower and definately the sun. For the 2nd year in a row I will not be able to swim in the lake with my friends or expose this nightmare to the eliments!!! If anyone can help me or knows of a cure please e-mail me at carol31129@yahoo.com!!!

I have recently studied this situation of the allergic reaction to the ink in scream. It is called lichenoid dermatosis. I found very informative information on entering the name of this condition from putting in the name of licheniod dermatosis on dictionary.com. See for yourself. If I find out any more info on this condition I will post it.

My sister just got a tattoo using scream ink. She has 4 Hearts all were colored in using scream ink. One heart that was colored using lavendar blush she had a reaction to. I've only read about the red. All around the heart she got red bumps. I called the company where we bought the ink and they said that they never had any problems with that particular color and that she is probably alergic to it. If anyone knows anything about the lavender please let me know.

I have been doing Tattoos for 10 Year. I have tried many brands of inks. There is not 1 Brand of ink that I like the most. It all trial and error to see which inks work the best. Some people work good with one brand over other brands.

I like using Iron Butterfly for my Brown, Ronan Blood Wash, Kokkai Sumi for by outline, and Eternal and Intenze for my colors.

Remember to have your CUSTOMERS Sign the "Waiver" that if anything happens to the tattoo that you will not be held liable. When they sign the waiver they take all responsibility for what happens.

Some customers, dont take care of the tattoo properly, and that is what causes the tattoo to get infected. Like my first Tattoo 30 Years ago, i went to the beach after getting it, and it got all scabbed up and got infected.

I myself LOVE Tattoos, and even my Koi has the color Red and Orange will puff up from time to time. Sometimes due to weather, or if i get a pimple near that tattoo. Just dont touch it and it will be ok after a day or two. My Artist uses Dynamic Ink, and even there colors react with my skin, but not as bad as other people.

Try to stick with a Tattoo Artist that works well with you, I try to use the same artist that uses the same ink. This way i know this ink works well with my skin.

Getting Tattoos these Days are not what they use to be. It could be for Fashion, to remember a love one, or just for yourself.

No matter what you get, or who you get it from, or what ink you use. It is a risk. The risk is low to most, but there will be that 1% out of the Millions of people getting tattoos.

My suggestion is to star out with getting something small. Stick with Black if you can. All colored Ink have problems and you should be aware of the Risk.

Hi i have seen this reaction in tattoos only in the red parts they where lumpy and itchy, i ran a tattoo gun over the red parts with a five needle shadder and listerine, when they healed some of the pigment had come out with the scab but the lumps and itchyness dissapeard this must break up the consontrated cadmium metal salt , see if you can get a tattooist to do this it may work for you, you have nothing to lose,if you get tattooed again with red pigment i have found that the best red to use is red 170 F5RK ci no .12475 i have used it for over 20 years with no reactions regards Steve

Well after all the creams, pills, shots, dr. visits almost 3 yrs. of suffering and 8 laser surgeries, I finally got enough money to have this red ink tattoo removed surgically from my right ankle. I had the procedure done 12-11-09. The doc cut 1/4 inch deep around half of my ankle. It hurts like hell but after it heals I will have nothing.......absolutely nothing to do with tattoos. Especially SCREAM INK FARARRI RED!!! This is my only tattoo, and although the art of tattooing can be so beautiful, it's not for me. As far as other scream ink colors......GOOD LUCK! This is one of the hardest lessons I've had to learn. DON"T BE A FOOL LIKE I WAS AND GET A HOMEMADE TATTOO!!! DUH!! MAKE SURE YOU GO TO A PROFFESSIONAL, SIGN A WAIVER AND BE CAREFUL!!!!!

Look, I have been a tattoo artist for 15 years. I really dont understand why were having this discussion. All experienced and hopefully unexpieranced (hopefully they have done their homework) should know that the chemical make up in red ink will have a greater chance of some type of reaction over all other colors. The artists should be informing there clients of the risk as well as a release form indicating such things may happen. Come on and some one actualy sueing an ink company for this type of crap is shame on artist and on client for not DOING THE RESEARCH. I feel it was a mistake on both parties call it even and take your punches live learn and move on shit man...

yea, its well known some people have reactions to red ink, but I've heard nothing but bad things about Scream Ink in shops, by scratchers and apprentices... the way it lays in, the way it settles in the bottle, nothing good whatsoever.... if your artist used Scream Ink, they have no idea what theyre doing or just saved a few bucks by not giving a damn about you or your well being and should have their hands broken.

Starbrite is in a world of crap legally, but check out fantasia. packs in smooth, has a nice consistancy similar to kuro sumi and stays bright, similar to skin candy, but without the BS skincandy comes with.

i don't know about all those who say they have never had any problems with this ink or how some people can't take ink into their skin, i'm practically "shirted out" and when i used this stuff to do some minor touch up work it totally screwed up my skin. all the ink came out within 10 days and the area i worked on is still somewhat red after 4 weeks. i also worked on another and they had the same problems with the cysts and puss..in all my years tattooing i've never seen a product like this..and by the way: i was using the "pitch black", not the "ferrari red"...

Hello all,
Well unfortunately I have Scream ink, call me what you will, scratcher (though I had a breif apprenticeship) The f***ing ink does suck, all of it. Watery, doesn't stay, I know other people have said " If you know how to tattoo than you can make it go in." sure it'll go in but it staying in doesn't. It comes out, and if any stays it's faded. For the lawsuit thing I think it's a bunch of shyt. You got the tattoo wherever so deal with it. I guess also that everything is trail and error, now we all know to stay away from Scream, spread the word, the shyt will disappear. For me I guess I'm just going to buy different inks, starbrite is my next, then maybe intenze, permapro, waverly, etc. etc. live and learn, again trail and error. I would love some others to contact me to discuss tattooing, anyone, andemon26@gmail.com or hotmail. I guess take care all, and f**k scream.

I believe I am having the same problem with this ink. I tattooed my wife with the ferari red and banana rama yellow and now she seems to be having the same problems. Do you think I should contact a lawyer as well, now I am going to take pictures of this

I have been using scream ink for a short time as a replacement for the ink I had caller sailor ink. I have just started with tattooing family and myself. Knowone that I don't know. So far I have not had any problems out of it, not to say I won't, but the people that I have used this ink on, I have been checking up with them at least twice a week since I read this a few weeks ago. I have not heard any complaints yet. All the color is staying good with no blistering or anything. I hope nothing like that does happen. When I purchased this ink, I was told that it was a new formula that replaced the old formula and had just came out a month before I bought it. Hate to hear your bad luck and hope that it does get better and you get everything you have been fighting for. Feel free to email me at robbiedeason23@yahoo.com. From one tattoo enthusiast to another thanks for the heads up.

scream ink wont be the cause of your infection it will be the fact that you got the tattoo done by someone from home and they either didnt have proper equipment or there equipment where not sterolised which means you will have a blood disease so for your case go to the bloody doctors and get a hiv check and blood checks n stop being a baby scream inks have no problem what so ever on everyones skin iv used them on never had one complaint even on the ink you said harmed you get your head sorted and get to the doctors and sue the tattooist not the company that sell the ink

i have used ferrari red scream ink on myself and a lot of customers, never had a problem, the bottle im using now is pre recall, no worries. people need to read the waiver, get informed ahead of time what they are having injected under their skin and deal with it. myself i get the same symptoms whenever i use brown ink on myself so i know not to use it much now, never sued over it

I am sorry to hear about your situation, and I hope you can get it resolved rightly. You probably just saved more than a few people that I "Scratch" on from getting an infection, thank you for your feedback. Why are proffesionals so uptight like they own the craft of tattooing, did they all start in a shop. I tattoo, oops I mean "Scratch" on my friends and thiers, mainly because they want to express themselves and cant afford to go to a shop and pay hundreds of dollors for one. I keep it as sterile as I can pressure cooker, ultrasonic cleaner, alcohol, gloves, etc. And you can even buy the top rated inks (Starbrite, Moms, Talans, etc.) on Ebay. Just because a pro spends 5-10-20 years of his/her life in a shop that doesnt mean they should always say us non pro's make tattooing look bad. Didnt this craft start with abarigionaries, sailors, criminals, etc. And now pro's want to put down those who also love this art. I think the only thing that can make YOU look bad is YOU. Im sure anyone who gets really serious about tattooing will end up in a shop. But just cause you dont work for NASCAR dosnt mean you cant work on your car at home. I live a life, I aint got time to be sitting in a shop all day when I got bills to pay. I think if the adults are consenting and you are truthfull about your skill level then there is nothing wrong with it. Sorry if it makes you upset, but you can get everything you need to do tattoos on the computer, watch tips from youtube, books, videos. But nothing beats experience, and you only get that one way, TATTOOING.

i agree with you on getting them to take away that color. i had red put in my arm and it caved my skin in to where there is nothing but a scar like i had been badly burned. it took almost 2 years for the red to go away completely now where the red was you can see muscle under the skin

the same thing happened to me and i thought i was just having some sort of weird breakout like you would on your face. but mine was on my thigh and i thought that was a little unusual. i did my tat myself with sterile equipment and my thigh was broken out and sore for like 3 weeks. now its gone and hasn't come back but i do have some scars. does it sound like i also have a case even though i did the work myself?

I've been using scream inks for a while and not one of them has had any problems, the colour is vibrant and goes in well. i understand if u had reactions after the tattoo but was it definately the ink? I'm definately concerned about it having read this thread, especially as i recently ordered some more :S i hope all goes well with the lawsuit for you, i felt i had to defend it a little as none of my tattoo's hav reacted badly to scream inks. and i'm a scratcher!

I'm very sorry to hear about your situation and experience with your tattoo. However, I've been tattooing for 14 years and been using Scream Ink for the past 4 or 5 of them. If you went to a credible tattoo artist and did not sign a waiver then obviously he wasn't very credible. Secondly, Some people do have reactions to certain pigments, If that's the case, talk to the artist about the reaction. Personally, I've not had a single complication with the scream ink it's self nor have any of my customers. Yes it is smoother to run with and yes it settles funny in the bottle, No it's NOT a cheap brand of ink. I also use Moms and Skin Candy. All I can say is that I believe that either something wasn't right at the house or the shop where the tattoo was done. Now as far as blistering and puss, you might be better off checking the equipment that was being used for your tattoo or the after care of the tattoo. Now, you can call me what you want too but I am a licensed artist that has a Clean room in my home and an office as well. My home is in a business zoned location and has been completely approved by the city and health department for my tattooing. I have successfully accomplished more than 10000 tattoos with no complications. So does that make me a Scratcher???

I've been tattooing for a short while and scream ink is the only tattoo ink I have used so far. I dont know about the other reactions people have had, but I myself find the ink goes in nice, heals/ feels fine and is pretty bright and colorful. I did try it on myself first (I'm pretty sensitive) and all was well with myself and others. I would love to know- what is the best ink? I dont care about the price it is worth it! to get great results for people.

if you wanna play with the big dogs and get tattood like one, its noones fault but your own if something went wrong,,, i dont know about anyone else, but if i goto a tattoo shop, i research it, and ask to talk to other customers,,,, if i dont see certifications on the wall, i aint even talking to the artist,, stuff like this happening is the risk you take,,, EVERYONE knows the risks,,, if you went ahead KNOWING THE RISKS,YOU HAVE NO CASE. mmmmkay,,, buh-bye,,, case closed,,,

I waited till I was 50 to get my first tattoo. Two years later it is still itchy and swollen. Two of my friends have the same problem. Its seems to be only the magenta that does it. The artist is legit, no fault of his. The company that makes the ink should be held responsible for the torture this ink is causing, not my tattoo artist or shop

I have been tattooing with scream ink since 2008. I even read all the recalls on the red. But truth is, even "intenze" "the hottest ink out now" has had the same problems with there dark red. I do how ever like the new formula because it is organic pigmant, water, alcohol. All these so called "name brands" such as intenze don't tell you what its made out of and expire. I've been tattooing for 16 years now, when most tattoo inks still had lead in them and told you on the lable it did!!! Look at your lables!!!! Some people are allergic to ANYTHING organic. Bottom line is, the ink is GOOD. I have Intenze, Kuro Sumi, Scream and have tattooed with Eternal and Star Brite. They all have draw backs, scream looks just as good as any named here, it really depends on the person you tattoo!!! If you treat your body like shit, its ganna heal like shit!!! Its ganna look like shit NO MATTER WHAT INK YOU PUSH!!! I have over 100 plus loyal clients and all I use is Scream Ink now. They listen to me when I tell them to treat your tattoo like your only child at birth and treat your body even better. I've tattooed in 3 different states through out the U.S.. Every place is different, temp, sun exposure, etc, etc. It all comes into play when you tattoo. Food for thought the next time your bashing an ink when its most likely you tattooed someone who parties like the Rolling Stones and lives like a dirty slob, your tattoo is ganna reflect thier life style in appearance. One guy on here even said he used Scream's Black and still the same issue. Baby your tattoos people!!! You pay enough to wanna care for it right?? Its not something you take lightly, IT'S REALLY MINOR SURGERY, that's why we go through training as professional's!!!*** Oogster - owner and operator of www.oogstertattoos.webs.com

My daughter got a large tatoo on her arm, and the red ink has caused major problems, bleeding, blisters etc. I called Eternal Ink where she got the tatoo two years ago, and they deny the lawsuit.

I am in the process of contacting a surgeon to remove the tat. I am also interested in contacting a lawyer about this issue. we live in Maryland. can anyone give me a lawyer that would be willing to tackle this problem?
