I started tattooing professionally at the early age of 16 years old, although the shop owner assumed that I was 18. It was at Skips Tattoo in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. During this time tattoo’s and tattoo artist’s were in a transitional period with style. Fine line tattoos were popular and artists were beginning to play with their color and learning new methods of shading. Luckily I was positively influenced by excellent artists of that period, including Joe Johns, Brian Campbell, Chris Garver, Paul Booth, Guy Aitchison and other artists of this caliber. Their work inspired me to take pieces of what I liked from each artist and tried to duplicate what I saw. From Lancaster, I then went to Tattoo’s By Lou, in Selden N.Y., one of New York’s longest standing tattoo studios. I was lucky enough to work around Tattoo Lou Rubino and other important artist’s key to the tattoo community, including, Jon Clue, Joe Capobianco, Yoshimora, Civ and many other great artists. This was going to be the biggest transition of my career, taking me from an amateur to a noted tattoo professional. And this is the time when I started to find my own style. By this time I had been tattooing 6 years. In my seventh year I opened Altered Image Tattoo, in Brooklyn, NYC. Right about the same time tattooing became legal in the five burrows and tattoo shops started popping up everywhere, so I left N.Y. for Chicago, Illinios. During this time I started to gain recognition for my work in many of the Tattoo Magazines. I started tattooing at The Body Shop in Springfield, Illinois. By this time I had been tattooing 9 years. During this time I worked with, retaught, and opened a shop with Eric Stratton. This studio was called Dreamtime Tattoo. After selling Dreamtime, I moved to Orlando, Florida, and worked at a great tattoo studio in Florida, Bad Dog Tattoo, featuring the art work of Brett Barr, Thomas Jacobson, Head and Mike Carracao. We constantly worked the convention circuit winning awards in almost every category we entered. I worked at Bad Dog for another year and a half and decided to move to Arizona. I started tattooing at Hot Rod Tattoo in Chandler, from there, I gained quick notoriety and respect in the Arizona tattoo market and opened Platinum Ink. Since then I have moved back to Florida, doing all custom work, including portrait, new school, fine art re-creation and all other forms of custom tattooing. If you are confused as to why I spell my last name both Laux and Lowe is because most people cannot pronounce it properly. I now have made my home at Forbidden Images Custom Tattoo Studio, in New Port Richey Florida, featuring owner/artist, Litos, Thomas K. and Chris Reed. This tattoo studio is by far one of the best studios in the U.S. and features some of the most amazing tattooing today. For an appointment, please call me at (727) 846-8757 to set up a session.
