Daryl Distler entered the Tattoo Industry in Oklahoma, despite the laws at the time that stated tattooing was illegal. Nonetheless his passion for the arts and this outlet of artistic expression led him to take on an apprenticeship with David Bennet of Bennet Tattoos and Piercings. However due to its illegal nature in the state, Daryl began to search for a way to successfully get a legal apprenticeship underway, coming across a tattoo artist by the name of Miller Cotton. Word was that Cotton was on the lookout for an apprentice, and given the situation Daryl jumped the gun by giving Miller Cotton a call to join his crew. Like with any apprenticeship, Daryl started at the bottom of the ladder, essentially working his way up by doing any and everything to work off the apprenticeship debt whilst learning the trade as well. Small tattoos, shop chores, and even yard work at Miller's place were all tackled with enduring enthusiasm for the Industry. Earning his keep and absorbing what he could of the Industry before filling an artist position for Miller at his Worcester, MA shop. There Daryl's style would be influenced by another artist, Jeff Gemma. And following the good times he at Worcester moved to another one of Miller's shops in Missouri. Relocating to Texas, he worked through a couple shops before finally finding a Home at Cat Tattoo in Addison, TX. "I have been really getting into black and grey work recently. Bob Tyrell, Tom Renshaw, and Paul Booth (for that matter anyone out their putting out sick black and grey pieces) are all very influential for me. I love doing photo-realism, portrait work, color, and custom work as well" - Daryl Distler
