My name is Canyon Webb, Im from Reno Nevada. Growing up I was inspired by comic books and cartoons which led me to tattooing different styles Including Graphic realisim, and neo-traiditonal. I was hugely influenced by tattooing before I received my first tattoo at a shop at 16, I bought the tattoo magazines and was fascinated. Later I started appreciating fine arts in college. I was determined to make these influences my future. Convinced that I would have to stay working at jobs I wasn’t passionate about for “the money”, working for the Union Pacific Railroad and other jobs trying my hand at a careers that would end up being unfulfilling... I asked a few tattoo shops around town about apprenticeships for a few years but most were jaded about the question, and rightfully so. I found an opening tattoo shop that needed an apprentice. Getting my chance I took advantage of every second I had learning. In the first couple years I signed up for every seminar, class, and artistic venture I could be a part of. In my search for growth I met many great mentors and examples to build my habits and characteristics after. I took a tattoo seminar from Jeff Gogue called (Gut level Tattooing) and it changed everything for me. It also motivated me to oil paint, and broadens my horizons past tattooing. I entered a whole new world of feeling like a real artist and seeing the world through an artist’s eyes. Quickly I realized that the hard work and practice I put toward tattooing would directly affect my results and success. This was more rewarding than any other profession I’ve ever experienced. There was ART, gratifying and permanent. I decided the sky was the limit and success was my goal. Now I oil paint every minute I’m not tattooing, and grateful to make a living from paintings. In 2009 I took 3 Painting seminars again in Grants Pass with Jeff Gogue; I was addicted. I had never experienced so much collaboration, support and creativity in one place. Not only that but it was saturated with artists I admired greatly. After every visit it lit a fire under me to work harder. I was lucky enough to be hired at Reno Tattoo Company in my 3rd year. There I worked with an incredible artist and mentor D.J. Minor from the east coast. I learned a lot about style and color theory, but most importantly I admired the effort he put into drawing and tattooing. Now in my 4th year of tattooing I feel I’ve just got to the starting line, a beginning to a career, still very fresh and new. I’m becoming more content with what I can offer. I am now very grateful to work for OFF THE MAP TATTOO Northwest and moved from Reno NV to Grants Pass OR to work for friend and mentor Jeff Gogue. With this opportunity I plan to tattoo at the highest level that im capable, while learning everything I can from every visiting artist.
