Help support this website! email this page to a friend This sleeve depicts the process of aquatic evolution from the very first single-celled organism given nutrients by underwater lava flows and 'black smoker' deep sea vents, up to the first sea creature to crawl on land, and combines that with some strong feminist symbolism in the form of a mermaid. All of the organisms and sea creatures used were taken directly from biology textbooks and are as size and scale appropriate as the medium and piece would allow. The upward swirling of the evolutionary process from wrist to shoulder, as well as the upwards splashing of the water, both symbolize femininity, and pretty much every last bit of this entire sleeve is either scientifically accurate or loaded with symbolism, or both. There was a lot of intense work and research in this project, and my utmost respect goes out to Erin for her patience, toughness, and diligence. I am very proud of what we accomplished with this project. Image CommentsThere are no comments for this image. Be the first to leave one! |
